Celebs Who Have Gone Back to School
Whatever the reason for dropping out, getting a high school education can help you feel more accomplished in life. Consider these five celebrities who felt their high school education was important enough to complete, even after achieving fame.
Mark Wahlberg
Before making a career in the entertainment industry, Mark Wahlberg, had a rough childhood that eventually led to dropping out of high school. However, at age 41, he announced on the Late Show With David Letterman his plans to finish high school through online courses. He told MTV News, “One of the big regrets in my life is that I didn’t finish school. I quit when I was in the ninth grade… I didn’t have too many people to look up to so the key for me to really make an impact was just to speak to them directly — tell them about my story.”
Katy Perry
Katy Perry may be singing about Teenage Dreams and Friday Night parties, however, this singer dropped out high school a few years before graduation. She has since gone back and gotten her GED.
Drake
Drake may have sold more than five million records worldwide, but until last year he was also a high school dropout. The Canadian rapper had this to say on Twitter upon graduation, “97% on my final exam. 88% in the course. One of the greatest feelings in my entire life. As of tonight I have graduated high school!”
Michael J. Fox
While making a career of playing high school characters, in real life, Michael J. Fox actually dropped out of high school. He starred in movies such as Teen Wolf, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and the Back to the Future trilogy. He later went back and got his GED in 1995.
Fantasia
Known as the American Idol’s Season Three winner, Fantasia dropped out of high school at age 16. In fact, in her memoir, Life is Not A Fairy Tale, she admitted to being functionally illiterate. However, during the 2010 taping of her reality show, she is shown graduating from high school.
